ABOUT US

We started Peterson Brothers because we believe outdoor property work should be done with real skill and honest communication, by people who actually know and care about this place. It is just how we were raised, and Sewanee and the surrounding area is exactly the kind of place where that still matters.

  • Griffin Peterson, Co-Founder

Griffin grew up with a deep love and respect for the outdoors and the land that defines this part of Tennessee. He is a graduate of the University of the South, where he earned his degree in Sustainability. His experience at Sewanee has shaped the way he approaches every job, from the plants he recommends to the way he thinks about drainage, erosion, and how a property holds up over time.

During his time at Sewanee, Griffin interned with the Appalachian Conservation Institute and worked hands on with Johnny Hunter Construction, learning this land from multiple angles before ever putting his name on a business. He brings that background to every project, and it shows in the questions he asks before any work begins.

For Griffin, doing it right means doing it in a way that lasts. He knows the Cumberland Plateau well, and that knowledge is part of what you get when you hire Peterson Brothers.

  • Colton Peterson, Co-Founder

With more than six years of hands-on experience in lawn care, mulching, pruning, shaping, and small stonework projects, Colton brings a level of practical skill that most people his age simply do not have. He built his first client base on his own before Peterson Brothers was even an idea, and those clients kept calling him back.

He is the one on the ground every day. Colton is the reason the work gets done right, gets done on time, and looks exactly the way it is supposed to when it is finished. He has a natural eye for outdoor spaces and a way of listening to clients that sets the tone for how the whole job goes.

He does not guess at what you want. He asks, recommends, and then he delivers it.

Whether it is a yard that needs consistent, reliable maintenance or a project that requires real attention to detail, Colton shows up prepared and holds himself to a high standard. His experience is broad, his work is clean, and the communication is honest from start to finish.

We work with this land. Not against it.

The Cumberland Plateau is a particular place. The soils, the slope, the seasonal water, the native trees that have grown here for decades. Griffin earned his degree in Sustainability right here at the University of the South and that background shapes how we approach every job.

We think about plant selection, choosing varieties suited to this climate rather than imports that struggle. We think about drainage, working with the natural flow of water on a property rather than redirecting problems. And we think about erosion, especially on hillside and edge properties common throughout the Sewanee area.

Do the work right.
Leave the land better.
